The Bichon Frise story
MEDITERRANEAN
Drawn as an original engraving in its own landscape and printed as a full archive plate. Comes as a tee, a sweatshirt, a hoodie, a print and a pack of cards, from £30.00.
Sailors carried these small white dogs around the Mediterranean from at least the fourteenth century, trading them at ports and leaving one line on Tenerife, which gave the breed an early name. They rose through the Spanish and French courts, fell out of fashion after the Revolution, and spent the nineteenth century working French streets and circus rings, where the quick learning and the natural showmanship were an asset. The coat is the maintenance: it does not moult so much as tangle, and it asks for attention every week. What owners recognise is the sudden lap of the room at full speed, the spring in the walk, and the flat refusal to be left in a different room to everyone else. The archive plate is drawn loose around the coat and precise around the eyes.

The Bichon Frise plate
Every plate in the archive is drawn from scratch as a natural-history engraving, the breed set in the country it was made for rather than floated on a white background. The Bichon Frise is Archive No. 002. The drawing is printed as a full plate across the back of the garment, nothing on the front, and the same plate is used for the print and the cards.
Garments are made when they are ordered, so nothing is printed until it is wanted and nothing is held in a warehouse. UK orders are printed in the UK and North American orders in the USA, which keeps the parcel on the same side of the ocean as the person waiting for it. If it is not right when it arrives, it can go back within 30 days.
