The Border Terrier story

Narrow enough to follow a fox underground and long enough in the leg to keep up with a horse: the Border Terrier was built to those two demands on the Cheviot hills, working alongside the Border foxhounds in Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. It came late to the Kennel Club, in 1920, largely because the farmers and hunt servants who kept it saw no reason to bother. The otter head is a real distinction rather than a fancier's phrase, and so is the harsh double coat, which sheds mud by itself but wants hand stripping twice a year. Owners get a terrier without the edges: game outside, entirely civil indoors. The plate leans on the head, since that otter shape separates the breed from every other working terrier at a glance.

The Border Terrier plate
Every plate in the archive is drawn from scratch as a natural-history engraving, the breed set in the country it was made for rather than floated on a white background. The Border Terrier is Archive No. 022. The drawing is printed as a full plate across the back of the garment, nothing on the front, and the same plate is used for the print and the cards.
Garments are made when they are ordered, so nothing is printed until it is wanted and nothing is held in a warehouse. UK orders are printed in the UK and North American orders in the USA, which keeps the parcel on the same side of the ocean as the person waiting for it. If it is not right when it arrives, it can go back within 30 days.
