A cattle dog built low enough to duck a kick. That is the whole design. In Pembrokeshire, corgis drove stock to market by nipping at heels and dropping flat when hooves came back at them, and the old Welsh laws record the drover's dog as an animal of real value centuries before any kennel club existed. Royal association arrived in 1933 with a puppy called Dookie. The working instinct went nowhere: corgis still herd ankles, still hold strong opinions and voice them at length, and still moult an improbable volume of undercoat for their size. The drawing sets the long body and short legs in true proportion rather than softening them, and gives the ears their full height, since they are the first thing anyone sees coming.

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi plate

Every plate in the archive is drawn from scratch as a natural-history engraving, the breed set in the country it was made for rather than floated on a white background. The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is Archive No. 012. The drawing is printed as a full plate across the back of the garment, nothing on the front, and the same plate is used for the print and the cards.

Garments are made when they are ordered, so nothing is printed until it is wanted and nothing is held in a warehouse. UK orders are printed in the UK and North American orders in the USA, which keeps the parcel on the same side of the ocean as the person waiting for it. If it is not right when it arrives, it can go back within 30 days.
