The Rottweiler story

The town of Rottweil in Baden-Wurttemberg sat on a Roman road, and long after the legions left it remained a cattle market. Butchers there used a heavy drover's dog to move stock and to guard the day's takings, which were said to travel in a purse tied around the dog's neck, hence Rottweiler Metzgerhund, the butcher's dog of Rottweil. Rail transport nearly finished the breed in the nineteenth century before police work rescued it. Owners know the noise: not a growl but a low conversational rumble of contentment, usually delivered while the dog reverses its full weight onto your legs and sits down on your feet. The plate keeps the head broad and the expression calm, with particular care given to the markings above the eyes, which do most of the talking.

The Rottweiler plate
Every plate in the archive is drawn from scratch as a natural-history engraving, the breed set in the country it was made for rather than floated on a white background. The Rottweiler is Archive No. 015. The drawing is printed as a full plate across the back of the garment, nothing on the front, and the same plate is used for the print and the cards.
Garments are made when they are ordered, so nothing is printed until it is wanted and nothing is held in a warehouse. UK orders are printed in the UK and North American orders in the USA, which keeps the parcel on the same side of the ocean as the person waiting for it. If it is not right when it arrives, it can go back within 30 days.
