The Cairn Terrier story

The working terrier of the Western Highlands and Skye, named for the piles of stones it was sent into after otters, foxes and rats. It shares ancestry with the Scottish and West Highland White Terriers and was recognised separately in 1912. It is a small, shaggy, weatherproof dog with a fox-like expression and no interest in being decorative; the coat is harsh on top and soft underneath and is meant to shed rain, not be admired. Cairns are busy, opinionated and dig, and are among the most straightforward of the terriers to live with because they are less inclined to pick a fight than most. The artist put the dog on a rocky cairn on a Highland hillside with a loch below, which is exactly where the breed's name comes from, and drew the coat in short broken strokes to keep it rough.

The Cairn Terrier plate
Every plate in the archive is drawn from scratch as a natural-history engraving, the breed set in the country it was made for rather than floated on a white background. The Cairn Terrier is Archive No. 034. The drawing is printed as a full plate across the back of the garment, nothing on the front, and the same plate is used for the print and the cards.
Garments are made when they are ordered, so nothing is printed until it is wanted and nothing is held in a warehouse. UK orders are printed in the UK and North American orders in the USA, which keeps the parcel on the same side of the ocean as the person waiting for it. If it is not right when it arrives, it can go back within 30 days.
