The Bull Terrier story

Drawn as an original engraving in its own landscape and printed as a full archive plate. Comes as a tee, a sweatshirt, a hoodie, a print and a pack of cards, from £30.00.
James Hinks of Birmingham made the breed in the 1850s and 60s from the old bull-and-terrier fighting dogs, adding Dalmatian and, some say, English White Terrier to produce a white dog of clean lines that was meant to be a gentleman's companion rather than a pit dog. The egg-shaped head, with no stop between skull and muzzle, came later and is the breed's signature. Bull Terriers are clownish, strong-willed and physically powerful, devoted to their people and inclined to hurl themselves at furniture for the joy of it. They need early training and an owner who finds all this funny. The artist set the dog on a dockside among coiled rope and barrels, a nod to the breed's Victorian industrial origins, and used the plain white coat as negative space with the rigging and warehouses carrying the line work.

The Bull Terrier plate
Every plate in the archive is drawn from scratch as a natural-history engraving, the breed set in the country it was made for rather than floated on a white background. The Bull Terrier is Archive No. 035. The drawing is printed as a full plate across the back of the garment, nothing on the front, and the same plate is used for the print and the cards.
Garments are made when they are ordered, so nothing is printed until it is wanted and nothing is held in a warehouse. UK orders are printed in the UK and North American orders in the USA, which keeps the parcel on the same side of the ocean as the person waiting for it. If it is not right when it arrives, it can go back within 30 days.
