The Hungarian Vizsla story

The pointer of the Magyar nobility, drawn in Hungarian manuscripts from the fourteenth century and bred to work the plains and reed pools of the Carpathian basin, pointing and retrieving in one dog. The breed nearly vanished twice, after the First World War and again after the Second, and was rebuilt from a handful of dogs. The short russet coat, the amber eyes and the lean frame are all of a piece: a dog built for hot, open country and long days. Vizslas are famously clingy, following their owner from room to room, and are unhappy left alone; they want work, and a run is not the same thing. The artist drew the dog on point in a wheat field at the edge of reed pools, with a well-sweep on the plain behind, and kept the coat almost bare of hatching so the russet reads as smooth against the grass.

The Hungarian Vizsla plate
Every plate in the archive is drawn from scratch as a natural-history engraving, the breed set in the country it was made for rather than floated on a white background. The Hungarian Vizsla is Archive No. 036. The drawing is printed as a full plate across the back of the garment, nothing on the front, and the same plate is used for the print and the cards.
Garments are made when they are ordered, so nothing is printed until it is wanted and nothing is held in a warehouse. UK orders are printed in the UK and North American orders in the USA, which keeps the parcel on the same side of the ocean as the person waiting for it. If it is not right when it arrives, it can go back within 30 days.
