The Irish Setter story

The red setter of the Irish bogs was a working gundog before it was a beauty, quartering ground at speed and freezing on point when it found birds. The solid red coat was selected in the nineteenth century from an older red-and-white type, and the show ring then made the breed glamorous, which nearly cost it its brains; working lines kept them. A good Irish Setter is still all engine: fast, tireless, happy to the point of foolishness, and slow to grow up, with most owners saying three years. The feathering on the legs, ears and tail needs brushing and collects the countryside. The artist drew the dog on point in bog and heather with a turf stack and the sea beyond, the tail held level, and used long parallel strokes for the coat so the feathering reads as silk rather than wool.

The Irish Setter plate
Every plate in the archive is drawn from scratch as a natural-history engraving, the breed set in the country it was made for rather than floated on a white background. The Irish Setter is Archive No. 033. The drawing is printed as a full plate across the back of the garment, nothing on the front, and the same plate is used for the print and the cards.
Garments are made when they are ordered, so nothing is printed until it is wanted and nothing is held in a warehouse. UK orders are printed in the UK and North American orders in the USA, which keeps the parcel on the same side of the ocean as the person waiting for it. If it is not right when it arrives, it can go back within 30 days.
