The Cockapoo story

Not a breed by the Kennel Club's reckoning, and the most popular dog in Britain by most other measures. The cross of Cocker Spaniel and Poodle was first made deliberately in America in the 1960s and took hold here in the 2000s, when families wanted the spaniel's affection with a coat that shed less and forgave more. What came through is a dog that is glad about everything: the walk, the visitor, the same ball for the fortieth time. The coat runs from loose waves to tight curls and needs clipping rather than admiring, and the temperament is soft enough that a raised voice does more harm than good. For the plate the artist set the dog on a park bench path, since this is a breed of Sunday mornings and bandstands, and drew the coat in open curls rather than tight ones so the eyes stay visible.

The Cockapoo plate
Every plate in the archive is drawn from scratch as a natural-history engraving, the breed set in the country it was made for rather than floated on a white background. The Cockapoo is Archive No. 028. The drawing is printed as a full plate across the back of the garment, nothing on the front, and the same plate is used for the print and the cards.
Garments are made when they are ordered, so nothing is printed until it is wanted and nothing is held in a warehouse. UK orders are printed in the UK and North American orders in the USA, which keeps the parcel on the same side of the ocean as the person waiting for it. If it is not right when it arrives, it can go back within 30 days.
