The Old English Sheepdog story

A drover's dog from the West of England, walking cattle and sheep to market in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, with the tail docked to mark it as a working dog exempt from tax, which is where the old name Bobtail comes from. The breed is now drawn with its natural tail. The shaggy coat that covers the eyes is the famous part, and it is a serious undertaking: it mats within days if neglected and takes hours to groom properly. Under it is a big, square, good-humoured dog with a rolling, bear-like gait and a bark that carries. They are clownish, kind with children and in no hurry about anything. The artist put the dog on a drovers' road through an orchard meadow with a stone barn and sheep, and drew the coat in long loose strokes with the eyes just visible through the fringe.

The Old English Sheepdog plate
Every plate in the archive is drawn from scratch as a natural-history engraving, the breed set in the country it was made for rather than floated on a white background. The Old English Sheepdog is Archive No. 039. The drawing is printed as a full plate across the back of the garment, nothing on the front, and the same plate is used for the print and the cards.
Garments are made when they are ordered, so nothing is printed until it is wanted and nothing is held in a warehouse. UK orders are printed in the UK and North American orders in the USA, which keeps the parcel on the same side of the ocean as the person waiting for it. If it is not right when it arrives, it can go back within 30 days.
