The Rough Collie story

Drawn as an original engraving in its own landscape and printed as a full archive plate. Comes as a tee, a sweatshirt, a hoodie, a print and a pack of cards, from £30.00.
The herding dog of the Scottish Highlands, taken up by Queen Victoria at Balmoral in the 1860s and turned by Victorian breeders from a working collie into the long-coated, elegant dog of the show ring. The head became longer and narrower and the coat grew into the ruff and feathering the breed is known for; the herding instinct survived underneath, and Rough Collies still gather children and other dogs when let. They are gentle, sensitive and quick to learn, with a tendency to bark, and the coat needs proper brushing rather than a wipe. The artist set the dog in a Highland glen beside a croft with sheep on the slope, drawn standing with the ruff full, and gave most of the line work to the coat's direction of growth so the profile reads at a distance.

The Rough Collie plate
Every plate in the archive is drawn from scratch as a natural-history engraving, the breed set in the country it was made for rather than floated on a white background. The Rough Collie is Archive No. 038. The drawing is printed as a full plate across the back of the garment, nothing on the front, and the same plate is used for the print and the cards.
Garments are made when they are ordered, so nothing is printed until it is wanted and nothing is held in a warehouse. UK orders are printed in the UK and North American orders in the USA, which keeps the parcel on the same side of the ocean as the person waiting for it. If it is not right when it arrives, it can go back within 30 days.
