The Pug story

Drawn as an original engraving in its own landscape and printed as a full archive plate. Comes as a tee, a sweatshirt, a hoodie, a print and a pack of cards, from £30.00.
Chinese emperors kept Pugs as lap dogs for centuries before Dutch traders brought them to Europe in the sixteenth century, where they became the dog of the House of Orange and then of William and Mary's English court. The Victorians made them fashionable again, and the breed has never really gone out of fashion since. The shape is deliberate: a square, compact body, a flat wrinkled face, a tail curled twice if the dog is a good one, and a way of looking at you that suggests it is owed something. They are affectionate, greedy and mildly ridiculous, and know it. The artist drew this one on a velvet armchair by a sash window with a cup of tea on the side table, because a Pug outdoors is a Pug on the way back indoors, and used stipple rather than line for the coat to keep the fawn reading as pale.

The Pug plate
Every plate in the archive is drawn from scratch as a natural-history engraving, the breed set in the country it was made for rather than floated on a white background. The Pug is Archive No. 031. The drawing is printed as a full plate across the back of the garment, nothing on the front, and the same plate is used for the print and the cards.
Garments are made when they are ordered, so nothing is printed until it is wanted and nothing is held in a warehouse. UK orders are printed in the UK and North American orders in the USA, which keeps the parcel on the same side of the ocean as the person waiting for it. If it is not right when it arrives, it can go back within 30 days.
